I'll be handing it out to my clients. (And I'll be quoting her in my next book!)  Thank you, Betsy Burroughs.”  --Barbara Sher, best-selling author of 7 books including Wishcraft and I Could Do Anything If I Only Knew What It Was and featured in popular public television specials around the countr

Is This Book for You?

Excerpt from
The Corporate Rebel's Productivity Guide:

I’m a corporate rebel. Have been for a very long time. Actually, more specifically, I’m a corporate VP expat. A willing exile from corporate life. Ahhh, the freedom! The adventure! The rebellion against what I’m supposed to do.

And...the tyranny of no structure. The loneliness of isolation. The struggle to stay productive.

The good, the bad, the ugly...

But I learned long ago that focus is the catalyst that can quickly change the bad and the ugly into the good. And make my work much more creative and fun.

A big reason many of us don’t find easy, creative and fun ways to work effectively is because we simply don’t look for them.

Well, 10 years ago I looked for them and created the freedom I wanted from my previous 20 years of corporate life. No cubicles. No bosses. No endless meetings.

No having to physically be in that boring office building the requisite 10, 12 or more hours a day.

But being without that corporate structure and all those people around me all day has its drawbacks, too.

So. What to do?

I decided to focus on creating catalysts to get myself automatically and easily productive. And I did it using a couple of motivational strategies not normally found in your typical corporate handbook: rebellion and adventure.

What do you think of when you read those words “rebellion” and “adventure”?

If your heart skips a beat and your mind salivates (mixed metaphors at their worst) then this book is for you.

If they leave you cold, then...step away from this book. It’s not for you. Close it now and nobody will get hurt.

But for the rebellious and adventurous ones of you who want to be more creative and productive, this book can be your catalyst to a new focus for your work. One that can make it much more effective, creative...and fun.

Yes, you heard me right. What I’m saying is you can use your natural love of adventure and that rebellious streak of yours (which lurks in many of us) to your advantage in your work.

You don’t have to squash those “evil” desires of yours. You can instead use them to make yourself more productive.

Sounds like a way tall order, doesn’t it? Well, flip through this book and try out any of the techniques that catch your eye.

See for yourself if one or more of them can bring a renewed energy, passion and creativity to your work, whatever you do.

There are seven “FocusCatalysts™” in this book. (And more coming soon at FocusCatalyst.com.) Play with any of them and if you’d like more insight into how to use them, join me in a free FocusCatalyst teleconference to talk about them, ask questions, get clarification, and share your ideas and experiences.

Note: I’m well aware that the definitions of “rebellion” and “adventure” are in the eyes of the beholder. The context here is about going against the corporate norm. There’s no sky diving or bungee jumping in this book. Sorry…
